Temple Villa AFC (2) vs Tulla Utd (5)

Day # 2 had our 2013 Boys Galway Cup Team up against Temple Villa AFC from Westmeath kicking off at 4.45pm.

The players looked more awake that the early kick off the day before and proved that by pressing the opposition from the start. Tulla Utd had most of the possession and took the lead courtesy of own goal due the heavy pressure they were forcing 5minutes into the game 0 - 1. Temple Villa AFC responded 5 minutes later with an equalizer using the breeze behind them and sending the ball long down the wings. 1- 1.

Our boys shook it off and took the lead again 1 minute later when Oritseweyinmi Emiko squared the ball for Seánie Hayes our stand in goalie from Day # 1 to put it in the back of the net. 1 – 2.

With 8 minutes to go in the 1st half Temple Villa AFC responded again with the last goal of the 1st half to make it all square at the break 2 – 2. Stand out player of the 1st half would have to go to the captain of the game Oisín Collins whose work rate and leadership was second to none.

We regrouped at halftime with little comfort knowing we had the advantage of the breeze for the 2nd half. Not that you would have noticed by the distance of our keeper Jack McMahon’s kick out in the 1st half against the breeze. Jack who had just returned from a long-distance break earlier in the day and was keeping jet lag at bay 😊.

The 2nd half started with Temple Villa AFC doing most of the pressing however couldn’t thankfully get through our defence. The lead for the 3rd and final time came with 14mins to go in the game when Oritseweyinmi Emiko took a shot which was saved by the keeper before Ryan Vaughan smashed it into the back of the net. 2-3.

3 minutes later Oran Rodgers scored the goal of the game with a powerful strike from outside the 18 yard box assisted by Oritseweyinmi Emiko. 2-4.

With 2 minutes to go in the game Oritseweyinmi Emiko dribbled down the wing and cut the ball back to Seánie Hayes who calmly finished to make it 2 – 5 and give Tulla Utd their first win in the Galway Cup.

Joint man of the match would have to go to Oisín Collins and Oritseweyinmi Emiko.
Two final group games to be played Thursday 07th August @ 10.05am vs Carlow League - Red and 2.40pm vs Carlow League – Green
