Tulla United U-14 Girls complete the Double

Tulla U-14 Girls League and Cup Winners 2013

11th November 2013           Tulla United 3 - 1 Lifford

Tulla United U-14 girls completed the cup and league double in the County Grounds on Monday night last. Having beaten Lifford in the cup two week previous, both teams squared up to each other to see who would take league honours. Both teams finished their league campaign with 24 points after 10 games. As goal difference doesn't count in underage soccer, a play-off would determine who would be crowned league champions.

This game, like all their previous meetings, was a very tight affair. Tulla settled well and got off to the ideal start when a Tanya Azara shot found its way to the net, albeit after a deflection from a Lifford defender. This spurred the Lifford ladies into action and were back on level terms shortly afterwards when they blasted a close range shot high into the roof of Tulla's net. Lifford went close to taking the lead when a free kick rebounded off the foot of the post. Both sides created more chances but it remained at 1-1 until midway through the second half when Tulla midfielder Amy Barrett found space in front of the Lifford goal and finished to give the East Clare side the lead. Lifford looked dangerous on the break and at times Tulla had to rely on Sorcha O'Donnell in goal to keep them in front.

The game was put beyond Liffords reach with 10 minutes left when substitute Amber Nolan got Tulla's third and last goal. She shot from the corner of the penalty area and somehow found it's way to the back of the net in over a helpless Lifford keeper.

After the game, Chairman of the CSSL, Alfonso D'Auria presented the cup to joint captains, Emma Deegsn and Laura McGrath. Players who impressed most on the night were Tanya Azara, Grainne Kelly, Amber Nolan and hard working central midfielder Amy Barrett. The team is managed by Pat McNamara and Denis Purcell.

Tulla Squad: Sorcha O'Donnell, Gemma Brady, Roisin Conway, Aoife Floyd, Grainne Kelly, Grace Moloney, Emma Deegan, Tanya Azara, Amy Barrett, Rachel Minogue, Laura McGrath. Subs - Amber Nolan for Minogue, Hannah Purcell for Conway, Ailbhe Merriman for Brady, Amy Conway for Moloney, Anna Louise Floyd for Deegan. Subs not used: Emma Kelly, Kate Shanahan, Ciara Halpin, Roisin Keogh, Leanne O Halloran, Aoibhe O Reilly, Grainne Lynch.

This game rounds off a very successful season for the Tulla Uunited girls. All 3 teams got to their respective cup finals. The U-12 team, managed by Pam O'Reilly were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Lifford while Murdoch Gleeson's U-16 team were beaten 3-2 by Connolly in an excellent exhibition of girls soccer.

First Cup Title for Tulla Girls

24th October 2013           Tulla United 2 - 0 Lifford

Tulla Utd girls captured the U-14 cup in The County Grounds, Doora on Thursday night last against rivals Lifford. Although it was Lifford who dominated the opening stages of this game, they failed to make it count on the score sheet.

Tulla slowly found their way into the game and only for Rebecca Blake in the Lifford goal, the East Clare side could have this game wrapped up by half-time , but Tulla were made battle all the way for this victory.

Eventually, Tulla broke the deadlock through a wonderful strike from winger Grace Moloney after good work from striker Laura McGrath. She found Moloney in space on the right wing who drove forward and smashed the ball to the roof of the Lifford net. Just before the break McGrath herself doubled Tulla's lead with a goal worthy of winning any final. Winning the ball in her own half, she ran through the heart of the Lifford defence, beating a number of challenges before coolly finish past Blake in the Liffird goal.

Tulla had to deal with a few scares before the game finally finished 2 - 0 to Tulla. The stand out players for Tulla were Laura McGrath, Tania Azara, Hannah Purcell, Emma Deegan and Amy Barrett who picked up a player of the game award.

Tulla Squad: Sorcha O'Donnell, Ailbhe Merriman (Gemma Brady), Roisin Conway, Aoife Floyd, Tania Azara, Grace Moloney, Hannah Purcell, Amy Barrett, Emma Deegan, Rachel Minogue (Amber Nolan), Laura McGrath. Subs not used: Grainne Kelly, Amy Conway, Anna Louise Floyd, Emma Kelly, Kate Shanahan, Ciara Halpin, Aoibhe O Reilly, Leanne O Halloran, Roisin Keogh.
